THE ANNIVERSARY

[It's been exactly two years since Mithos took over Paradisa. That's two years of delightful massacres, scaring people into the Dead Zone, and manipulating former friends with the ageless face of a Kharlan hero. Two years of your character struggling to hold onto life as they know it while under the shadow of a fearsome ruler from another world. Two years of scraping to get by, cowering in the Dead Zone, waiting for a chance to go home or a death that Paradisa can't-- won't-- give.

There is nothing planned for today, though there are a few whimsical sort of changes that Mithos called for. The angels are on security detail as usual, policing the grounds; however, Mithos and his closest subordinates may be stepping outside. There is a grand feast set up in the ballroom... but angels don't eat, so it's really just for show. The place has the air of a graveyard party where even the dead decide not to attend.

There is an undercurrent of anxiety tonight, a breath held in anticipation. Something is about to happen, and even the insects are quiet.]

[Yep. Yuan is no Turk, but in a lot of ways his friendship is very much like that. He knows he can count on Yuan, he knows there are things that can go unsaid and he knows they'll be there for each other]

...Though hey, if we're confessing early years stuff- should I mention I lied about my age?

[He snorts. As if it really matters. He can't even remember Reno mentioning his age, and Yuan judges people by a separate maturity scale.]

On the low side or the high side?

[Oh, he knows it doesn't matter. But keep it quiet for too long, and Yuan's thoughts might start drifting back to Mithos]

High side, don't be insulting.

Insulting? I'm several millennia old and still look in my twenties, how is that insulting?

Yeah but you're immortal, that doesn't matter. For us mortal humans, life as we know it ends at 30.

Thirty. [His tone is flat.] ...You're sure about that one?

Yep, perfectly sure. How many humans in this castle do you know that are over thirty?

...I'm not sure. [He thinks back, trying to count up the regular humans he knows.] ...I'm actually not in the habit of asking them their ages. Fairly sure Tony's over thirty, though I'm honestly not much judge anymore.

Trust me, Tony's a rare exception to the rule.

For the rest of us? If we're not settled down by thirty, society sees us as finished.
