THE ANNIVERSARY

[It's been exactly two years since Mithos took over Paradisa. That's two years of delightful massacres, scaring people into the Dead Zone, and manipulating former friends with the ageless face of a Kharlan hero. Two years of your character struggling to hold onto life as they know it while under the shadow of a fearsome ruler from another world. Two years of scraping to get by, cowering in the Dead Zone, waiting for a chance to go home or a death that Paradisa can't-- won't-- give.

There is nothing planned for today, though there are a few whimsical sort of changes that Mithos called for. The angels are on security detail as usual, policing the grounds; however, Mithos and his closest subordinates may be stepping outside. There is a grand feast set up in the ballroom... but angels don't eat, so it's really just for show. The place has the air of a graveyard party where even the dead decide not to attend.

There is an undercurrent of anxiety tonight, a breath held in anticipation. Something is about to happen, and even the insects are quiet.]

...Okay, I'd have to actually make a cattle prod first, but those are minor details.

...[A laugh and she slides down from the tree, hugging Once-Ler.] Thank you.

Only...I don't know where they are. You'll have to lead me. Shall I just...wait here for you?

[Oh hell, HUGGING. He returns it, albeit awkwardly]

You promise you'll actually be here when I get back? [Not that he doesn't trust her or anything...wait]

I will be right by this tree. Or in it. Unless a patrol comes by. [In which she'll have to leave.]

Okay, see you soon.

[And when he DOES eventually return, it's with crumpled clothing and a black eye. He shouldn't be left alone of five minutes seriously]

[She's still leaning against the tree, and when she sees him with the black eye and sighs.] What happened this time?

[Oh good, she's still here. He shifts his bag, now full of supplies on his shoulder]

Oh, I had a super fun conversation with a friend of ours. [Then, even more dryly:] You should see him.

...Right. [She sighs again and lifts up her hand to his temple.] First Aid.

[That should heal most of the bruising and take down the swelling.]

[You're a bro, Martel. The Once-ler groans rubbing the feeling back into his face]

Great, thanks. You still want to go back to the caves? [Yep, definitely not expanding on why he ended up getting punched in the face]

So, how did you get punched? [Not going to let it go.

And well...] Yes., I'll come with you.

[He shrugs, starting to walk off towards the caves]

Does it matter?

...I suppose not. [She follows him.]

So who else is there, at the Resistance?

Great! Then we can never talk about it again. [He understands why Zelos is angry, even if he doesn't regret his own actions. The guy doesn't deserve to be on the receiving end of a Martel Rant]

Lots of people I never really knew at the castle. Tsuna and Ino are there, though. [You know, some of the Ohana]

[She would agree with him, Once, and you would probably be on the end of the rant, not Zelos.

She smiles at that, though.] Good. I'm glad they escaped...

[Such is his life]

Yeah, they're doing fine. [There's a pause] Sheena got a keycrest, not all that long back.

Did she...? [She looks over, somehow hoping:] Is Colette there?

[The Once-ler's face drops to a frown]

...No. She's still an angel.

...I promised her I would get her out. [Martel looks down, upset. She should have rescued her when she had the chance.]

[The Once-ler lets out a breath, trying to maintain some semblance of calm]

Yeah, well. That seems to be a common feelings.

...Huh? Who else have you been talking to about Colette?

Zelos brought her up.

[Then punched him]

...is he going to go rescue her? Does he need help?

[She would gladly help in any way necessary.]

I don't know, probably. We don't exactly talk about plans.

...He's definitely going to need help. Maybe I'll try to get a hold of him, though I'd probably only draw too much attention if I went with him.

I don't know, Martel. He's got this lone wolf thing going on now, he might not appreciate it.

[Plus, you know, he wanted the others freed before you]
