THE ANNIVERSARY

[It's been exactly two years since Mithos took over Paradisa. That's two years of delightful massacres, scaring people into the Dead Zone, and manipulating former friends with the ageless face of a Kharlan hero. Two years of your character struggling to hold onto life as they know it while under the shadow of a fearsome ruler from another world. Two years of scraping to get by, cowering in the Dead Zone, waiting for a chance to go home or a death that Paradisa can't-- won't-- give.

There is nothing planned for today, though there are a few whimsical sort of changes that Mithos called for. The angels are on security detail as usual, policing the grounds; however, Mithos and his closest subordinates may be stepping outside. There is a grand feast set up in the ballroom... but angels don't eat, so it's really just for show. The place has the air of a graveyard party where even the dead decide not to attend.

There is an undercurrent of anxiety tonight, a breath held in anticipation. Something is about to happen, and even the insects are quiet.]

Well, I feel I have to do something other than sit around in the forest all the time. And anyway, I'm stronger than you.

And what if they catch you again? [He frowns, clearly not thrilled with this idea of hers] That'd really top off their party, wouldn't it? Having you back in chains.

[A sigh.] Then what am I supposed to do, Once-Ler? Just sit here in the forest evading patrols?

You could always come to the Resistance.

[Then, quickly:]

...Yeah I already know your answer to that. But it's got to be better than staying here. And at least you wouldn't have to worry about patrols.

[heal_theworld]

...I know. I probably should. It's better than staying out here, even though I do have my freedom.

[A pause before she asks:] Is Yuan still there?

[whichwayyoulean]

You'll have your freedom there, too. Look at me, part of the resistance and still walking about and everything.

[He pauses himself, before heaving out a sigh] Of course he is.

[heal_theworld]

You do know that as soon as he sees me, he's never letting me out of his sight. [A sigh.] I feel like I'd only burden him, though he'd also want to know I'm safe.

[whichwayyoulean]

And you think him believing you're still trapped in the castle will make him feel any better?

You'd have me and Ino back there, we'd make sure he'd back off.

[heal_theworld]

I know, I know... [A sigh.] I really do want to go see him.

[whichwayyoulean]

The go see him. It's gotta be better than skulking out here all the time.

[heal_theworld]

Probably, even though I'm not sure who else will want me there. The patrols are looking for me.

[whichwayyoulean]

Well, if anyone whines about it, I'll just have the electrocute them with a cattle prod.

...Okay, I'd have to actually make a cattle prod first, but those are minor details.

[heal_theworld]

...[A laugh and she slides down from the tree, hugging Once-Ler.] Thank you.

Only...I don't know where they are. You'll have to lead me. Shall I just...wait here for you?

[whichwayyoulean]

[Oh hell, HUGGING. He returns it, albeit awkwardly]

You promise you'll actually be here when I get back? [Not that he doesn't trust her or anything...wait]

[heal_theworld]

I will be right by this tree. Or in it. Unless a patrol comes by. [In which she'll have to leave.]

[whichwayyoulean]

Okay, see you soon.

[And when he DOES eventually return, it's with crumpled clothing and a black eye. He shouldn't be left alone of five minutes seriously]

[She's still leaning against the tree, and when she sees him with the black eye and sighs.] What happened this time?

[whichwayyoulean]

[Oh good, she's still here. He shifts his bag, now full of supplies on his shoulder]

Oh, I had a super fun conversation with a friend of ours. [Then, even more dryly:] You should see him.

[heal_theworld]

...Right. [She sighs again and lifts up her hand to his temple.] First Aid.

[That should heal most of the bruising and take down the swelling.]

[whichwayyoulean]

[You're a bro, Martel. The Once-ler groans rubbing the feeling back into his face]

Great, thanks. You still want to go back to the caves? [Yep, definitely not expanding on why he ended up getting punched in the face]

[heal_theworld]

So, how did you get punched? [Not going to let it go.

And well...] Yes., I'll come with you.

[whichwayyoulean]

[He shrugs, starting to walk off towards the caves]

Does it matter?

[heal_theworld]

...I suppose not. [She follows him.]

So who else is there, at the Resistance?

[whichwayyoulean]

Great! Then we can never talk about it again. [He understands why Zelos is angry, even if he doesn't regret his own actions. The guy doesn't deserve to be on the receiving end of a Martel Rant]

Lots of people I never really knew at the castle. Tsuna and Ino are there, though. [You know, some of the Ohana]

[She would agree with him, Once, and you would probably be on the end of the rant, not Zelos.

She smiles at that, though.] Good. I'm glad they escaped...
